Earl of Castleton's Will 1764


Aughton

May the Ninth 1764

 

 

A true and perfect Copy of James Earl of Castleton’s Will so far as it relates to the inclosing of sixteen Acres of Common Land for the Benefit of the Church of Aughton.

 

And whereas I have by writing bearing date or about the Tenth Day of September last past proposed to and with the Governors of the Bounty of Queen Ann for the augmentation of the Maintenance of the Poor Clergy, that I my heirs or Assigns will well and sufficently convey the clear yearly sum of five pounds to be issueing out of the tythes of Aughton in the said County of York, and also Lands lately inclosed upon the Common of Aughton aforesaid of the yearly value of five Pounds to or for the benefit of the Vicar of Aughton aforesaid and his successors, for a perpetual Augmentation of the said Vicarage in such Manner as the said Governors shall order and their Council advises; so soon as the said Governors shall order the sum of two hundred pounds out of their revenue to be laid out for a further perpetual augmentation of the said Vicarage. Now I do hereby give and devise the said yearly sum of five pounds to be issueing and payable out of the Tythes of Aughton aforesaid, and the said Inclosures upon the Common of Aughton to William Gilby esq. and Jesper Blytheman Gent the trustees and executors named in my last Will and testament, their heirs and assigns upon trust, that they or the survivor of them his heirs or assigns do or shall settle and convey the said yearly sum of Five Pounds and the said Incloses for a perpetual augmentation of the said Vicarage of Aughton in case the same shall not be perfected in my lifetime.

 

The above is a true Copy as witness our Hands the Day and Year above written.
