Churchwardens Accounts 1776-1850


The Churchwardens’ Accounts for Aughton are mainly composed of dispursments for church fabric expenses, such as repairs, payments for bread and wine, candles, expenses during visitations, payments for the writing of the accounts, for writing terriers, for keeping the registers, etc.

I have taken a few sample scans from these accounts, and will limit the extractions below to those that include the names of people, or interesting entries.


1777

The total payments came to £22 7s. 7d., and the income from the church assessment and the rental income from church lands amounted to £21 18s. 9d., so the out of purse of 8s. 10d. was carried over to the next year.

Memorandum. Charles Gowry and Wm. Hewson Churchwardens for the Township of Aughton have deposited in the Hand of Edward Lambart the sum of ten Pounds for which he is to pay seven shillings a Year interest.

Notice was given on the 21st of Jun 1835 For a Vestry Meeting to be held in the Church on the 25th of June at 3 o’clock in the afternoon to take into consideration of granting a Lease of the Church Land situate at Bubwith.

 

The meeting was held this day 25th June 1835. We the undersigned do agree to grant a lease of the Church Land situate at Bubwith in the occupation of George Richardson to defray the expenses occurred in pewing the Church in the year 1826.
