Parish Registers

The parish registers of Aughton down to 1812 have been published by the Yorkshire Archaeological Society:

The Parish Register of Aughton in the County of York
Yorkshire Parish Register Society, Vol. LXXXVI

Baptisms, Marriages, Burials: 1610-1812

Despite the title the volume also contains earlier surviving Bishops' Transcripts, for the years - 1602, 1605, and 1607-8.

This volume is now out of print, but can be bought on CD from the society from their cdsales website below.

The period from 1813-1837 has yet to be attempted by anyone.

It should also be remembered that parts of Willitoft and Spaldington in the parish of Bubwith lay within detached parts of the parish of Aughton, and these registers should also be consulted. The registers have been published by the same Society, as follows:

The Parish Registers of Bubwith, Part I
Yorkshire Parish Register Society, Vol. XCIX

Baptisms: 1600, 1601, 1623-1767
Marriages: 1600, 1601, 1624-1753
Burials: 1600, 1601, 1624-1767

The earliest registers have been lost, and the start date for the earliest surviving register is 1623. The volume contains the only two surviving Bishops' Transcripts prior to 1623, i.e. 1600 and 1601.

This volume is now out of print, but can be bought on CD from the society from their website:

Despite the title (Part I), Part II was never published in book form by the Society, although they had a manuscript transcript for the following periods:

Baptisms: 1768-1813
Marriages: 1754-1812
Burials: 1768-1813

Happily, that transcript has now been published on CD and is available from their website:

Monumental Inscriptions
The monumental inscriptions for Aughton churchyard have been published by the East Yorkshire Family History Society, as No. 134 in their series, and is still available from this link:

Again, remember that parts of Willitoft and Spaldington lay within detached parts of the parish of Aughton, and the tenants in these places would nornmally go to Aughton to bury their dead, but the MIs for Bubwith should also be checked. Fortunately, the monumental inscriptions for Bubwith are included in the Aughton booklet from the East Yorkshire Family History Society.
